Chess Club

Stratford Trip

The Stratford Trip is fast approaching and final payments are due. See Mr. Kay to pay your final deposit and pick up your permission form. There is still one final ticket available to see HAMLET on May 20. See Mr. Kay in Room. 173 ASAP.

Relay for Life

Your Relay for Life Fact of the Day: There are 28 million cancer survivors worldwide. Registration  for Relay for Life ends THIS THURSDAY April 2nd! Forms and the $15 registration fee are being collected at lunch in front of the gym until then. Be sure to being them as soon as possible. Don't miss out!

Exciting Field Trip Opportunity

The 16th Annual University of Toronto Black Students' Association High school conference is being held on Tuesday May 5th. This year's theme is R.I.S.E.--and aims to encourage and inspire the youth of today and leaders of tomorrow to Reach, Innovate, Strive and Empower. If you are interested in attending this conference, pick up a field trip form in Guidance. Spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Please see your Guidance counsellor if you have any questions.

On Saturday, March 28th, two of Martingrove's ERT members participated in a first-aid competition at UofT. These two members, Starre McKibbon and Sudipta Das, competed against numerous university students and came in first place! Congratulations Sudipta and Starre!

Hey Martingrove! Saturday, March 28th is Earth Hour. To observe it, MEC is asking all teachers to at least turn off half of their classroom's lights on Friday from 2:05 to 3:05. If you wish to do Earth hour at home on Saturday, turn off your lights from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. Look forward to it!

Intramurals

  1. Intramural volleyball and intramural basketball signups continue until the deadline which is next Wed. April 1st.
  2. Intramural floor hockey continues tomorrow. The updated schedule has been posted.
  3. The indoor soccer team have their last tryouts on Monday after school.
  4. Boys Senior Soccer: Anyone interested in playing senior soccer must pick up a permission from off the red board. First trout is next Wednesday.

Badminton

Future Jr. Soccer Stars

The second try-out for the Jr. Boys Soccer team has been cancelled for this week. The next try-out will be on Thursday April 2nd at 7 am in the gym. Only students who have their completed form will be allowed to try-out.

Hey Martingrove! Relay For Life registration has begun! Make sure to start getting your forms and $15  fee in as soon as possible. The absolute deadline for registration is next Thursday April 2nd. Remember, the earlier you register, the faster you can start fundraising towards your goal. Forms are being collected at lunch every day until April 2nd in the gym hallway. Don't miss out!

Bantam/Junior Rugby

The first cut list has been posted. Please check if you have made it past the first cut and be at the final tryout for 7 am this Friday.

Neuroscience Summer Camp in July - Scholarships are available

Students in grades 9 - 12 are invited to apply to the Bright Lights in the lab camp held in July at the University of Toronto School (Spadina and Bloor). Students will learn concepts in neuroscience and design hands-on lab experiments while working with professors from the University of Toronto.
There is a cost to the camp but students who need financial aid assistance can apply for scholarships.

Women's College Hospital Summer Volunteering - last chance to attend info session is today!

The final information session is taking place at the hospital today from 5 - 6 pm in room 6214.

TDSB Summer eLearning registration has begun

You can now request summer school courses through TDSB's eLearning program in July or August. 
Registration is a three-step process
1: Log-in and request a course
2: Print out the application form and get it signed by your guardian.
3: Bring the signed form to Guidance so that we can verify and approve your choice.
In class summer school registration has not begun yet. We will inform you when it has.

Support epilepsy research by buying a cup of Tazo's herbal tea for only 1 dollar on March 27th at the foyer. Available flavours include passion fruit, sweet orange, mint and chamomile. Con't forget to wear purple in support of Epilepsy Toronto Awareness week!

If you are a student currently in grade 11 or 12 and you would like to earn two credits in co-operative education this summer, come to Guidance to pick up an application.

Volunteer Fair Tomorrow

All students are invited to come to the cafeteria at the start of lunch tomorrow to meet representatives from community agencies who need youth volunteers.
Pick an organization you want to support. Make a long-term or short-term commitment--you get to choose.

TDSB Summer eLearning Registration 

Are you considering earning a credit online this summer?
Registration is opening very early this year--the system will begin to accept applications on Monday March 23 at 7 am.
After you request a course, you need to bring an application from sign by a parent to Guidance. We will begin approvals on Monday, March 23.

Congratulations to the Martingrove Robotics team for a very strong 4th placre finish out of 42 teams n the qualifying matches at this years FIRST robotics competition.

Future Jr. Soccer Stars

Try-outs for the Jr. Boys' Soccer team begin next week on Tuesday March 10th at 7am in the gym. Please pick up your try-out form in the change room hallway. Only students who have completed their form will be allowed to try out next Tuesday.

Youth Civic Leadership Awards

Students in grade 10, 11 or 12 can nominate themselves of someone they admire for a Youth Civic Leadership Award. Awards will be given to young people who are outstanding leaders in their school or community. Awards range from $500 to $2000. Application deadline is April 3. See your Guidance counsellor for more information

Every college and university in Ontario is offering special March Break programming for high school students. You can go on tours or take part in activities. Universities and colleges are eager to connect with you--check out their webpages or follow them on social media to find out about their March Break opportunities.
