Applications are available for two different summer job opportunities:

  • Focus on Youth hires students to work at community summer programs. 
  • The program runs from July 4 to August 12
  • Must be 16 years of age or older by July, 2016
  • Must enjoy working with children and have interests/talents in one of the following areas:
    • Arts
    • Leadership
    • Literacy and Numeracy
    • Sports and Recreation
  • Application deadline: March 14
The TDSB also hires students to work as summer caretakers or in warehouses. Students must be at least 16 by July 2016.

Boy's Ice hockey

The boy's ice hockey team played well against Richview on Monday, ebven though they lost. Congratulations to Brandon Beck for a great goal. Eric Gerson, Zach Payne, and goalie Oliver Koefed were our stars of the game.

Short Story Contest

MCI Aesthetics Club

Do you have a passion for hair styling, nails or henna? Are you willing to master the skills of aesthetics? Then the MCI Aesthetics Club is for you! Open to students of all grades and genders. So come to our first general meeting on Wednesday, January 13th in room 236!

MEC

Hey Bears, are any of you craving delicious treats? If you are come on down to the foyer on Jan 19 because MEC is holding their battery bakesale. Bring your dead batteries and exchange them for cupcakes, brownies, cookies and more. See you all there. Love MEC!


ERT

Hey there ERT, We will have our first meeting of 2016 this week wednesday. Attendance is mandatory so please be punctual. The meeting will be in room 241 as usual.


Badminton 

There will be an important meeting today for all students wanting to try-out for the Badminton team. The meeting will take place at lunch today in room 144 at the beginning of lunch. All interested Badminton players must attend this meeting. 

MSC

This is for all actors or backstage stage crew interested in participating in the Ontario Sears Drama Festival. Come by the small caf Monday or Tuesday at lunch to speak with Ms. Keane. See you there!

Guidance

This is a reminder that there is a pizza lunch in room 101 today at lunch for all newcomer students. Invitations were handed out last week by Ms. Vranesic. If you have any questions, please see her.

Apprenticeship Program

Intensive 1 year programs that offer industry co-op placement, specialized courses and preparation to write the level 1 apprenticeship exams in ELECTRICIAN , COOK, PLUMBER, CARPENTER, HAIRSTYLIST and TRANSPORTATION are available at Thistletown and Central Tech. Information session at Central Tech this Wednesday, January 13th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Peak wit your counsellor for more information about these fabulous opportunities. 

Diversity Scholarship Program

Do you live in Toronto community housing? Are you passionate about building healthy and diverse communities in Toronto? Are you planing on attending post-secondary training next year - college, university, apprenticeship? You are invited to apply for a scholarship of up to $4000. Information sessions are being held this Saturday, January the 16th - you can pick either the morning or the afternoon session. See poster in guidance or speak with Ms. Archer for more information.

Summer Credit in Archaeology

All students in grade 10 and up are eligible to apply to the Boyd Archaeological Field School to earn a credit this August. Students live in a dorm and work with teachers, Archaeologists and Aboriginal educators on a site occupied by the fist nations peoples. Scholarships are available, especially for students of First Nations, Metis and Inuit backgrounds. TDSB Night school courses

If you would like to earn an extra credit studying something that is not available at Martingrove, check out the semester 2 TDSB nightschool offerings.
Any student in any grade can study American Sign Language or Portuguese. Senior students can study a variety of subjects, including World Religions and college preparation Physics.
Registration has begun--speak with your counsellor if you have any questions.

The Canadian Opera Company invites you to take part in an amazing evening of exploration on Friday, January 29.
You will go on an exclusive backstage tour of the set of the Marriage of Figaro, speak with the COC's makeup supervisor, observe a working rehearsal, receive two FREE tickets to the Marriage of Figaro, and meet other young people interested in opera and design.
