Important Notice for all grads

Planning to graduate this year? Don't forget to hand proof of your community service hours in to Guidance. 
We will take certificates, letters, or a competed TDSB passport--anything with your name, a description of the work you did and a signature of a supervisor.
You will not graduate until you provide proof of at least 40 hours community service.

Track and Field

To all members of the track and field team there will be a meeting in the WR today at the start of lunch. Eligibility forms must be signed and bus tickets will be distributed for Wendesdays meet.

Relay for Life

Relay is next Thursday so make sure you have been fundraising. Remember the minimum amount you must funraise is 60 dollars and our school goal is 25,000 dollars. If we can reach our goal, we will all be witnesses to one of the greatest battles of all time: Past vs. present, Mr. Nigro vs. Mr. Palermo in the most epic lip-sync battles in Martingrove history. In yesterday's game George Harvey batting first scored 72 runs in 6 overs. All our team players played exceptionally well. Ananmay played very good shorts which helped MCI to win the game by two wickets.

Scholarship reminder for grads

Ongoing: Don't forget to check the Scholarship Board in Guidance on a regular basis for new university and college scholarships with spring deadlines. Recently posted scholarships are aimed at Jamaican Canadian, Hindu, and Afghan Canadian students--look at the Board and you might find something that fits you.
New: The Abercrombie Scholarship is open to university-bound students in Etobicoke school It is worth approximately $650 and recognizes students who possess a well-rounded personality, demonstrate a fondness for athletic activities, have proven scholastic ability, demonstrate leadership potential, and show good moral character.
Deadline to submit your application to Martingrove's Scholarship Committee is Friday, April 29.

Pink Day

Today is the International Day of Pink and today we wear pink to raise awareness against homophobia, transphobia and bullying as a whole. International Day of Pink was started by two students in Nova Scotia who saw a gay student wearing a pink shirt being bullied. They intervened but decided to do more and prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying and they bought pink shirts and within days the entire school was wearing pink in solidarity. Today we all stand together against bullying, homophobia, and transphobia.

In yesterday's cricket game Weston Collegiate batted first and scored 41 runs in 6 overs. Our boys bowling and fielding was very good.
MCI boys scored 43 runs in just 5 overs and won the game by 5 wickets!

Two summer job opportunities with the TDSB

Applications close this weekend for the TDSB's Focus on Youth and International Languages Summer Programs.
Both of these employment opportunities are looking for high school students to work with younger students this summer, from July 4 to July 29.
Candidates must be 16 years old by July 1 and must enjoy working with children. Candidates should have an interest in Arts, Sports, Literacy and Numeracy, and/or Leadership.
If you speak a language other than English, you can apply to both programs - there are separate applications, and you will have two chances to be considered for a job.
